Collage celebrates boxer Anthony Joshua’s journey to Tottenham

Artist Jazz Grant has produced a tribute to world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua ahead of his fight against Oleksandr Usyk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow, (Saturday, 25th September).

Created in Jazz’ Haringey studio using her trademark collage technique, the piece, entitled AJ, celebrates Joshua’s journey to the latest defence of his title − which is set to be one of the biggest events of the 2021 sporting calendar.

Jazz said: “Even though boxing is a huge global sport, there is something so beautiful in its simplicity. Through the collage process, I’ve showcased crowds gathering from different centuries, across different countries to watch two fighters in action. Nature has also been layered into the piece, highlighting the beauty of boxing and its raw honesty.

“Anthony often refers to the idea of being a warrior and going into war, so I wanted to bring a sense of that through the silhouettes and shapes within the piece. Every champion has had an intense journey where every fight is crucial, and my aim was to pay homage to Anthony’s own exhilarating journey within the piece.

Jazz has previously collaborated on projects with Marcus Rashford, FIFA21, and now Joshua, who she had the opportunity to meet and present her artwork to in person.

She said: “Overall, the piece aims to capture the positive cultural and historical significance of boxing. It recognises the pinnacle of a sport where history is made in every match, and heroes are defined.”

Jazz Grant is currently participating in ‘BALLS’ exhibition at OOF Gallery, Warmington House. BALLS is open until November 21 and entry is free via The Tottenham Experience.
