Festival to celebrate the ‘creativity of young people’ in Haringey

Haringey Youth Festival will come to Highgate for its eleventh edition, reports Miriam Balanescu

A festival celebrating the ‘creativity of young people’ in Haringey will be returning this week.

Haringey Youth Festival will take place on Saturday, 28th October at 3pm, with Jacksons Lane in Highgate its host venue this year.

Young people from Collage Arts, Haringey Shed and Jacksons Lane will join for a day of workshops and performances.

Natalia Cid, head of creative engagement at Jacksons Lane, said: “Haringey Youth Festival is one of the highlights of the year for our young people; they are always looking forward to working and sharing experiences with the other groups and so proud to perform on stage. The festival is a great example of the amazing work arts organisations in Haringey are doing to showcase the positive work and creativity of our young people. We are delighted to host the festival this year at Jacksons Lane.”

The festival is now in its eleventh year, and was set up to celebrate local young people’s achievements in the arts and expose them to further opportunities.

Amalia Cohen, ex-participant of the festival and Collage Arts’ MC for the 2022 festival, said: “The Festival has always been such a good opportunity to try out something new in the different workshops, see the various brilliant art spaces in Haringey as well as watch other young people perform what they love doing.”

Jim Shepley, executive director of Haringey Shed, said: “It’s so important for our young people to connect with each other. It’s great to bring all these organisations together who are doing such great work in Haringey. The creative arts are so important for young people and are such a great tool to develop their skills.”

The festival is free to attend.
