Elderly man dies in Wood Green house fire

The whole first floor and roof of the property was destroyed by the blaze on Saturday night

A man in his 80s has died following a house fire in Wood Green.

The incident in Granville Road on Saturday (26th) saw firefighters called to a two-storey terraced house where the whole of the first floor and half of the roof were destroyed.

One woman left the house before London Fire Brigade arrived, but sadly a man died at the scene.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Tottenham, Hornsey, Edmonton and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene. The brigade’s control office took the first call at 10.15pm and the fire was under control by 11.30pm.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by the fire brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Sadly, a man in his 80s died at the scene.

“His next of kin have been informed and continue to be supported.

“Specialist Met officers are currently supporting the London Fire Brigade to investigate the circumstances around the fire.”
