Tottenham butcher Cris Peacock has raised money to help homeless families in Haringey by running the London Marathon for CARIS.

Peacock, who works for Dewhurst Butchers on Tottenham High Road, was moved to raise money for Christian Action Response In Haringey (CARIS), by a friend who works for the charity.

Tonya Mavri, family support worker at CARIS said: “When Cris offered to run the marathon for CARIS we were over the moon as the money raised will make a real difference to the families we work with.”

CARIS works with families dealing with homelessness. Its vision is: “To empower homeless families in Haringey to improve their welfare and enhance their quality of life.”

The amount raised for CARIS is yet to be confirmed, but Peacock said he had been touched by the generosity of the local community. “All the traders at Holcombe Market have been really generous,” he said.

In the run up to the marathon Peacock visited the charity to see the work it does with homeless families.

“No one should have to live like this in this day and age,” Peacock said.

When asked about future fundraising and marathon running plans Peacock said: “If I do it again they [CARIS] will be my number one choice. Whatever I can do I would.”
