Death is the first to be attributed to weather from Storm Eunice in England By James Cracknell
The Metropolitan Police has confirmed the death of a woman near Highgate Wood after a tree fell on her car.
Police were called shortly after 4pm on Friday (18th) to reports of a tree fallen on a car in Muswell Hill Road, near the junction with South Close.
Officers attended along with colleagues from London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade.
The passenger in the car, a woman aged in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers believe they know the woman’s identity and her family have been informed. They will be supported by specialist officers.
The car driver, a man aged in his 30s, has been taken to hospital. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
Road closures remain in place at the location of the incident.
Storm Eunice has been battering the British Isles throughout Friday with a red alert for wind issued in London and the south-east. Although one death was confirmed earlier in Ireland, the death in Haringey is the first to be confirmed in England as a result of the storm.
