Playing for peace

Tottenham Hotspur will be conveying a message of peace ahead of tonight’s (Monday, 7th March) home match against Everton in light of the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. 

Young people from Haringey Vox will perform ‘One Day’ – a song expressing hope that one day our world will stop fighting and people will embrace kindness and freedom, originally recorded by US reggae artist, Matisyahu.

Haringey Vox, part of Haringey Music Service, is a choir comprised of young people aged 11-18 from secondary schools and post-16 colleges across the borough.

Having previously performed at the BBC Proms, the Royal Albert Hall and on tours to both South Africa and Barbados, Haringey Vox holds weekly rehearsals at Chestnuts Community Centre in Tottenham for young people to attend.

The choir first performed ‘One Day’ at a recent event held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to mark Holocaust Memorial Day and will now be taking to the stage in front of a global audience shortly before the teams enter the pitch.

The musical performance will be accompanied by a stadium illumination, with a moment’s applause being observed prior to kick-off at 7.45pm, in a show of support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

Tottenham Hotspur players will warm-up in t-shirts calling for peace and displaying the clear message ‘Football Stands Together’, with team captains wearing special edition armbands.

The stadium’s matchday playlist leading up to kick-off will also feature songs that convey a message of peace.
