Night Tube services on the Piccadilly line are set to return this summer.

Transport for London (TfL) made the announcement today (29th June), and also confirmed that the Northern line would be resuming Night Tube services this weekend.

Night Tube services returned on the Central and Victoria lines in November 2021, and were further bolstered in May by the return of the Jubilee line. In addition, Night Overground services between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate returned in December 2021.

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said the re-launched services will deliver “a huge economic boost for our world-renowned night time economy”.

Nick Dent, TfL’s director of customer operations, said: ”Night Tube provides a safe and quick travel option for all Londoners and visitors looking to make the most of all the capital has to offer in the evenings, and those who need to travel to or from work at night. The summer is the perfect time for Londoners and visitors to take full advantage of London.”

This comes following nationwide travel disruption. Last week, 40,000 members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) walked out for three days in a dispute about pay and redundancies. A separate tube strike took place in the same week, meaning that transport services in the capital were virtually at a standstill. Members of the drivers’ union Aslef on the Croydon Tramlink are striking over pay this week, too.

TfL said that RMT strike action across Night Tube services over new rosters will continue until 4th December, when RMT’s current mandate expires. It claims the strikes will cause minimal disruption to services.

A date for the return of Night Tube services on the Piccadilly line is yet to be confirmed.
