Man jailed in connection with drive-by shooting in Haringey

The man was also found guilty of dangerous driving and possession of a firearm

A man has been jailed for his involvement in a drive-by shooting in Haringey.

Alexander Kufour-Boateng was the driver of a VW Golf from which shots were fired at a man standing on the pavement at the junction of Wood Green High Road. Police were called to the scene at 6.47pm on 25th January 2020.

The VW Golf, with false registration plates, travelled along Whymark Avenue, stopping while shots were fired. A 28-year-old man was hospitalised, suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.

Investigators found that the same bullet also launched through the rear window of a W4 bus, narrowly missing backseat passengers. Nobody was injured.

Kufour-Boateng was arrested and charged on 20th December 2021. During trial at Wood Green Crown Court on Wednesday, 22nd March, he was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for assisting an offender, dangerous driving, and possession of a firearm.

Detective sergeant Michael Clinch, who led the investigation, said: “This case clearly demonstrates the dangers faced by innocent people due to gang crime and how important it is that we take illegal firearms, and those who use them, off our streets.”

It is still unknown who fired the gun, which was later recovered by police.

Detective sergeant Clinch added: “It was pure luck that nobody on the bus was injured. This could so easily have resulted in a homicide investigation.

“I am pleased that Kufour-Boateng will be off our streets for a significant time and I hope that anyone who has information relating to the carrying and use of weapons is compelled to come forward and share what they know.

“We can investigate the shootings after they happen, but only with help from the public can we take illegal weapons and those who use them off the streets.”
