Wigs for Heroes have been given the funds ‘to create a social space where people affected by cancer can come together’

A community group in Haringey have been awarded just under £70,000 to create a new space for those affected by cancer.
Wigs for Heroes won £69,984 through the National Lottery’s Community Fund as part of ‘The People’s Projects’, which they will use to create ‘a social space where people affected by cancer can come together’. Workshops will be held in the space, while it will also be used to offer advice, sell pre-loved goods, run support group meetings, wig fittings and coffee clubs in a bid to improve mental health and wellbeing of its service users.
‘The People’s Projects’, founded in 2005, allocates funding to community groups based on a public voting system. Wigs for Heroes is one of 57 projects which have won funding.
Blondel Cluff CBE, chair of The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “The People’s Projects highlights the incredible work of inspiring community groups across the UK. We are proud to have given local people throughout the country a say in where over £4 million of vital National Lottery funding will go. We congratulate this year’s winners and look forward to seeing them make a life-changing difference in their communities.”
