The council is expanding the provision of free period products to all council-owned buildings, reports Miriam Balanescu

Haringey Council has announced it will expand the provision of free period products to all council-owned buildings in the borough.
After a motion brought by the Liberal Democrats councillor Alessandra Rossetti, the council agreed to offer free period products in all public toilets in council-owned buildings, while sanitary waste bins will also be provided.
Currently, free period products are offered in some Haringey libraries through the ‘Tricky Period’ initiative spearheaded by homelessness charity Streets Kitchen. This move by the council is set to expand provision of free products.
The council will also survey all schools in the borough to ensure free period products are provided for pupils and run a media campaign to raise awareness of the offering.
Cllr Alessandra Rossetti, who brought the motion, said: “Too many of our residents are suffering the indignity of period poverty, and are not aware of the free products that are already available in Haringey. I am very pleased that this motion was passed with the support of all councillors, and hope that this expansion of free products, together with an information campaign, will make more of our struggling residents more aware of the help that is available.”
