Six Haringey groups have been chosen to share in a £5,000 grant towards ‘sustainability goals’.

Go Green Month Haringey and community gardening company GrowN22 are among the six organisations to have been awarded this year’s Sustainability Fund, which was founded by waste-management company Veolia in 2021 and part-funded this year by Haringey Council.

Not-for-profit organisations, community groups and individuals were invited to apply for grants towards projects that enhance biodiversity, promote sustainable waste behaviours, protect or preserve resources and the environment, or use recycled, reused or reclaimed materials.

Luke Newcombe, managing director of GrowN22, said: “Thanks to the award from the Veolia Sustainability Fund, GrowN22 will be installing a brand new community shed which will host a variety of gardening tools. The new tools will be for student usage via the Haringey Learning Partnership and will be shared with our gardening neighbours on Commerce Road N22. A massive thank you goes out to Veolia for enabling GrowN22 to further enhance the garden and grounds and for making this project happen!”

Paul Peters, senior contracts manager at Veolia Haringey said: “We are very proud to be able to support these local projects and initiatives to help them achieve their environmental and sustainability goals, while making a real positive difference to the communities we are all a part of and whose environment we are striving to improve.”

The full list of projects is yet to be announced.
