14-year-old from Tottenham wins ‘community hero’ award

Musa Gumaneh Singhateh was a joint winner of the A2Dominion ‘young hero’ award for mentoring children aged 10 and 13

A 14-year-old from Tottenham has received a ‘community hero’ award for his mentorship work with children aged 10-13.

Musa Gumaneh Singhateh was a joint recipient of the A2Dominion ‘young heroine and hero award’ together with Aaliyah Ali, 16, from Tower Hamlets. The reward recognises the work of young people in the community.

The pair were also presented the ‘overall community hero award’ by the housing association and awarded a £300 bursary each towards their studies.

Musa recently moved to England from Gambia and is a passionate footballer. He was scouted by Crystal Palace Football Club and other Premier League teams.

He came to the attention of Errol Grant (director and FA Coach of Jellot Youth Centre and previous winner of A2Dominion’s community champion award) and was encouraged to help him run the Jellot Youth Football Club. Musa now helps to train the under 13 and under 16 teams.

Jo Evans, director of repairs and maintenance and a judge on the awards panel, said: “Congratulations to Aaliyah and Musa.

“The work that they have both been doing is so important for our communities. These awards are presented to them to say thank you from all of us at A2Dominion.”

Five winners were selected from a total of 30 nominees.
