Local cancer charity open space in Green Lanes

The new charity shop and cancer support centre is set to be called The Heroes Haven and opens in place of the former cafe Snug

A local cancer charity is set to open a new space in Green Lanes.

Wigs for Heroes has moved into the former Snug cafe, with a charity shop and cancer support centre due to open.

It will be called ‘The Heroes Haven’.

Founder Kaz Foncette posted on Facebook: “I’ve been [quiet] recently I know, but genuinely I’ve been so busy working on a project of a lifetime for my wonderful charity Wigs for Heroes.

“Formerly known as the Snug art cafe in Green Lanes, Wigs for Heroes are set on creating a never before seen cancer space right here in the heart of Haringey.”

Kaz added: “I’m so proud to announce that we completed this week and picked up our keys yesterday.

“We’ll be looking for anyone with carpentry building and retail experience and course DIY/interior donators to help bring this space to life in the next few weeks with a view to open our doors to the community asap.

“Thank you to everyone who casted their votes last year during the lottery people’s project voting time frame as this allowed us to get the funding we so desperately needed, and to everyone involved in helping me obtain this pretty perfect space for us right on the main Green Lanes strip! It’s a historical moment for Haringey to be gaining a much needed and first safe space for people in the cancer community, and monumental moment for me as a two time cancer survivor and dreamer. This project has been five years in the making, and acts as a reminder that despite the odds, to never give up on your dreams.”
