Man jailed for nine years over Tottenham shooting

Charles Ezbon pleaded guilty to possession of a loaded firearm and grievous bodily harm

A man has been jailed for a shooting in Tottenham after detectives identified him via CCTV.

Charles Ezbon, aged 33 of Park Lane in Tottenham, pleaded guilty to possession of a loaded firearm and grievous bodily harm in March this year.

He was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court last Friday (14th) to a life sentence with a minimum term of nine years’ imprisonment.

Detective Constable Rhiain John, who led the investigation said: “Ezbon is a dangerous offender with links to gangs, which is believed to be the motivation behind this incident.

“I’m pleased to see that the sentence given today means he will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”

In the early hours of Sunday, 24th December police attended North Middlesex Hospital following reports that a man had been admitted with a gunshot wound to the leg. The 26-year-old’s injuries were later assessed as not life-threatening.

An investigation was launched and officers established that the victim had been injured outside a supermarket in Cedar Road, Tottenham.

CCTV showed Ezbon shooting the man after an altercation at around 5am. The images clearly captured Ezbon and as a result officers were quickly able to identify him.

A manhunt was launched and Ezbon was caught as he tried to escape a friend’s home in Stanford Way, Streatham, on 8th January. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Despite the victim not willing to support police action officers progressed with their enquiries. A shell casing recovered at the scene assisted in linking Ezbon to the shooting. With the offence caught on CCTV, it left him with no choice but to plead guilty. He was charged and remanded on Tuesday, 9th January.
