A volunteer at Bounds Green Food Bank has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to help raise vital funds for the charity.

Andy Dawson scaled Africa’s highest peak at the end of June, following a seven-day trek, and has so far raised £3,500 on his fundraising page. But he still hopes to reach his £5,000 target.

Every penny raised will help Bounds Green Food Bank feed over 1,300 local children and adults in need every week.

The food bank is run entirely by volunteers and relies on food and cash donations to continue. But it has recently been under huge financial strain and has had to halve the support it provides. To run at full capacity, it needs over £100,000 every year.

Explaining his reason for taking on his Kilimanjaro challenge, Andy said: “I am taking on this challenge in memory of my good friend and walking companion, Chris Richardson, who died suddenly on Boxing Day 2022, and to raise funds for Bounds Green Food Bank (BGFB).

“Although Chris was not involved with BGFB, he worked tirelessly at the Living Well Food Bank in Penge to provide nourishing meals for those in need so I’m sure that he would approve of me asking for sponsorship to support BGFB and its guests.”
