Numerous applications to develop the site have been submitted over the years, reports Grace Howarth, Local Democracy Reporter

The site of a former nursing home in Highgate could be turned into residential housing following an application to Haringey Council.
Applicant ACO Development Ltd has submitted a proposal for eleven new homes across three buildings on the former Newstead Nursing Home site in Denewood Road.
Having closed down a number of years ago, the care home was eventually demolished and now the site, which falls within Highgate Conservation Area, lies vacant.
Numerous applications to develop the site have been submitted over the years, to sometimes fierce objection.
In 2021 permission was granted for applicants GCH (Newstead) Ltd and Fusion Highgate Limited to build 13 homes, across three buildings.
These plans were contentious, receiving criticism from Highgate Society, the local MP, Highgate conservation committee, and numerous local residents.
The new application is being proposed by different developers, however, and the public consultation has so far garnered more positive feedback, with appreciation shown for the removal of a basement car park proposed as part of the former consented application.
The plans propose four of the homes as three-bedroom residences and seven as four-bedroom, with less emphasis on apartments. The proposal does not offer affordable housing, however.
Concerns from neighbours have been raised around the impact on privacy, as they say the scheme could “exacerbate existing problems with traffic and parking” and “increase noise and pollution from construction”.
The consultation period is ongoing, with 6th September set as the end date and 4th November as a target decision date.
More information on the scheme can be found via Haringey Council’s planning portal, using reference number HGY/2024/2168.
