The feedback will be used to help Haringey Council decide whether to make the Bounds Green, St Ann’s and Bruce Grove West Green LTN trial schemes permanent
Residents are being asked to give their feedback on the borough’s three low-traffic neighbourhood (LTN) trial schemes, two years after their introduction.
The feedback will be used to help Haringey Council decide whether to make the Bounds Green, St Ann’s and Bruce Grove West Green LTN trial schemes permanent.
Introduced on an experimental basis in 2022 as part of the’ Streets for People’ programme, the schemes aim to reduce the overall level of traffic in the area so that the community can walk, cycle and wheel in cleaner air and safer streets.
All three schemes launched with a range of exemptions in place, including for Blue Badge holders living in the LTN areas. This was extended in September 2023 to all Blue Badge holders living in Haringey.
The council’s LTNs review will consider analysis of traffic, air quality, bus journey times, road safety and cycling data, as well as feedback from the community.
Mike Hakata, cabinet member for climate action, environment and transport, said: “Our low-traffic neighbourhood trials have transformed hundreds of streets, helping us meet our objectives of reducing traffic, improving air quality, and creating safer, healthier, and quieter spaces for all.
“I understand this has been a significant change for our community. I want to thank everyone who has provided comments and observations both before and after the experimental schemes were introduced. Your feedback has been invaluable in helping us refine and improve these initiatives.
“We have launched the online platforms to provide another opportunity for you to share your views and learn more about the schemes. We’re listening intently and are keen to hear your thoughts. Your input is vital in helping shape the future of our local streets and neighbourhoods.
“As well as carefully considering your feedback, we will also be looking closely at the monitoring results before making a final decision on whether to make the trials permanent. Our goal is to create a solution that works for as many residents as possible while addressing our environmental and safety objectives.”
The trials feature mostly camera-enforced filters to stop motor traffic using the neighbourhoods as a through route, but enable emergency and waste vehicles, as well as those with exemptions, to pass through.
Consultation with residents started as far back as February 2021 and, based on the feedback received, the LTNs have changed over time.
As well as extending exemptions for Blue Badge holders, some filters were removed or changed, and the council separately introduced a trial ban on heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) on Downhills Way/Belmont Road in the Bruce Grove West Green scheme.
Individual platforms for the Bounds Green, St Ann’s and Bruce Grove West Green trials have been created, while separate surveys have been prepared for disabled people and carers. To request a paper copy of the consultation questionnaire and for more information:
