Wood Green social enterprise shortlisted by global music awards programme

The RecShop is a nominee for the ‘Best Initiative to Support Music Education and Career Development’ category of the 2024 Music Cities Awards

The RecShop CIC runs events and programmes for young people in The Mall

A social enterprise in Wood Green that aims to break down barriers of entry into the music industry for young people has been shortlisted for an international award.

The Music Cities Awards serves as a “global showcase for initiatives that leverage music for economic, social, environmental, and cultural development in cities worldwide” and is an international competition covering eleven categories, from ‘Best Global Music City”, to spotlighting initiatives “working at the intersection of music and technology, diversity, youth engagement, sustainability, health, tourism and more”.

Wood Green’s The RecShop Community Interest Company (CIC) has been shortlisted to represent Great Britain as a nominee for the ‘Best Initiative to Support Music Education and Career Development’ category of the 2024 Music Cities Awards.

The Music Cities Awards Ceremony will take place during the Riyadh Music Cities Convention on 7th-9th December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

From its base at The Mall, The RecShop “empowers the next generation of creatives” by providing access to essential resources, mentorship, and career-building opportunities.

With a growing network of over 900 music makers, The RecShop offers an array of services and its youth programme equips young people with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in the industry. The organisation also provides affordable space hire, a vibrant bar, and merchandise, including vinyl records, all aimed at fostering a dynamic creative community.

One of its flagship initiatives, The RecFest, offers young artists a platform to showcase their talent to broader audiences, gaining valuable exposure and professional experience.

With over 300 applications from 19 countries across six continents, this year’s Music Cities Awards highlights the “vital role that music plays” in shaping the cultural, economic, and social fabric of cities. The selection process was led by a high-level global jury of ten experts who work at the forefront of music and city development.
