A faulty e-bike battery has been blamed for sparking a house fire in Crouch End.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters responded to the blaze in Rathcoole Gardens on Saturday (26th) at around 10am.

The fire occurred in a mid-terraced house of two floors, which had been converted into two flats. Half of the ground floor was damaged by the fire, and part of the first floor was also damaged by flames.

Seven people left the property before crews arrived, and there are no reports of any injuries.

Crews from Hornsey, Holloway, Tottenham and surrounding fire stations attended the scene and firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by 12.20pm.

London Fire Brigade has been warning for years about the danger posed by charging large lithium batteries. It says batteries should always be charged on hard flat surfaces where heat can dissipate and to keep an eye out for warning signs that the battery might be failing and becoming a fire risk.
