The 66 social-rent homes would be built on land that is currently open space, reports Grace Howarth, Local Democracy Reporter

Haringey Council has submitted plans to build 66 new social homes in South Tottenham.
The land at the junction of St Ann’s Road and Seven Sisters Road is currently open space but the new homes, if approved, would become part of the adjacent Sir Frederick Messer Estate.
The homes would be spread across two six-storey blocks, one of which was reduced down from 16 storeys following a public consultation on a previous version of the scheme. The proposed number of dwellings was also reduced from the original plan.
Some of the land would be maintained as green space and key groupings of mature trees preserved to act as a buffer between the blocks and Seven Sisters and St Ann’s roads.
According to planning documents, the scheme would help deliver “a new generation of high-quality affordable council homes for local people”.
The plans show 100% of the homes will be for social rent, with 13 one-bed flats, 28 two-bed and 25 three-bed homes. Priority will be given to local tenants living nearby.
It forms part of the council’s programme to deliver 3,000 council-rent homes by 2031, with work already completed or started on more than 2,000.
The scheme is car free, with the exception of seven disabled parking spaces which will be located within proximity to the seven homes on the scheme that are wheelchair-friendly. There will also be 128 cycle parking spaces.
More information on the scheme can be found via Haringey Council’s planning portal, using reference number HGY/2024/3315.
