The declaration is a commitment to ensure tobacco control is part of mainstream public health work

Haringey Council has reaffirmed its commitment to “addressing smoking-related harm”.
On ‘No Smoking Day’ yesterday (Wednesday 12th), senior leaders signed the borough up to the Local Government Declaration on Tobacco Control.
The declaration is a commitment to ensure tobacco control is part of mainstream public health work and commits the council to taking “comprehensive action” to address the harm from smoking.
Lucia das Neves, cabinet member for health, social care and wellbeing, was joined by chief executive Andy Donald and director of public health Will Maimaris for the declaration signing.
This is part of our ambition to make Haringey a healthier borough for everyone.
Cllr das Neves said: “Quitting smoking can have a huge impact on your health and wellbeing, and will increase the chance of living a healthier life for longer.
“We are signing this declaration to ensure we’re tackling smoking harms at every opportunity we can and to support the government’s ambition to make England smokefree by 2030.”
One-in-five adults in Haringey smoke, and smoking remains the main cause of preventable illness and premature death in the borough.
