Across London 32% of A-Level students received A or A* grades this year amid record results across the country, reports Raphael Henry

Haringey students have celebrated strong A-level results amid record grades across the country.
Schools including Harris Academy in Tottenham, Fortismere School in Muswell Hill and Highgate Wood School in Hornsey saw strong results in A-Levels, BTECs and vocational qualifications.
Across London, 32% of A-Level students received A or A* grades this year.
The Tottenham Hotspur-sponsored London Academy of Excellence Tottenham (LAET) recorded its strongest year of A-Level results to date, with 55% of grades being either As or A*s – far above the national average. Of these, 19 students achieved places at Oxford or Cambridge universities, with “the majority of students” receiving places at other Russell Group universities or on competitive apprenticeship programmes.
Emmanuel Ampong, who won a place at the Royal Academy of Music, said: “When I joined in 2023, the LAET music department had just launched, and I could feel the buzz of excitement for something new in the school, with opportunities for hidden talents to be revealed.
“I’m excited to be taking this next step at Royal Academy of Music, committing to what’s been in my heart since I was a child.”
Some 83% of students at Harris Academy achieved all A–C grades, with 23% achieving the highest A or A* grades. One student, Ilias Nibou, achieved A, A, B results despite suffering a bereavement during his studies and will now be studying politics, philosophy and economics at the University of Warwick. Yelyzaveta Tkachova, a Ukrainian refugee, achieved three A grades and will now study computer science at the University of Bath.
Kanika Forbes, Harris Academy Tottenham’s principal, said: “Across the board, our students have achieved excellent results and it is a joy to see them all celebrating today.
“This cohort of students is truly inspiring with many achieving superb results in the face of adversity.”
Almost a third of grades awarded to students at Fortismere School in Muswell Hill were A or A* grades. Fortismere students will soon be beginning studies in medicine, architecture, Arabic with French and more – including two students who will be attending the highly competitive Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Haringey councillor Zena Brabazon, cabinet member for children, schools and families, joined students at Highgate Wood School in Hornsey and Haringey Sixth Form College in Tottenham to celebrate their results. Over a quarter of students at Haringey Sixth Form College achieved A-A* grades.
The college also reported a 100% pass rate in art, English, history, law, media, psychology and sociology. Cllr Brabazon said: “I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our students across Haringey.
“We are incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved — not just in their exam results, but in the resilience, determination, and hard work they’ve shown throughout their time at school.
“These young people represent the very best of Haringey — they are bright, ambitious, and full of potential.“We wish them every success and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the future.”
