Haringey Council has agreed plans to acquire and build more than 100 new council homes on two separate sites in Tottenham.

The council’s cabinet agreed to purchase 76 homes as part of the redevelopment of a site at The Roundway and another 32 at an existing scheme in Lordship Lane which were originally built for private sale.

Councillors also gave the go-ahead to select a contractor to build 16 energy-efficient homes in Archway Road, Highgate, designed using Passivhaus insulation principles.

The three projects will contribute to the council’s target to deliver 3,000 new council homes by 2031, 2,000 of which are already underway or completed.

Sarah Williams, deputy leader and cabinet member for housing and planning, said: “n the face of the housing crisis, there is an overwhelming need for new council homes, and we are doing everything we can to make this happen.

“These schemes are another important step forward and will deliver high-quality homes, including a majority of much-needed family-sized accommodation for residents with children. Moving into these properties will be life-changing for people on our waiting list.

“I’m proud we are continuing to expand the supply of genuinely affordable housing in our borough – month on month, year on year – to help more and more residents get a home at a fair rent.”
