A 19-year-old man has died while travelling in a vehicle being pursued by the Metropolitan Police.

At around 12.52am today (Friday 3rd) police on patrol attempted to apprehend a vehicle of interest in Pretoria Road, Tottenham.

Following a short pursuit of approximately 60 seconds, police temporarily lost sight of the car. Shortly after, officers drove onto The Roundway and found the vehicle had been involved in a road traffic collision with another vehicle.

Officers provided immediate first aid prior to the arrival of the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

The passenger of the vehicle being pursued, a man aged 19, had significant injuries. He was taken to hospital where he died a short time later. His next of kin have been informed.

The driver, a man also aged 19, was arrested after the collision on suspicion of failure to stop and dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.

There were no other reported injuries.

As is standard practice, the Met’s directorate of professional standards was informed about the incident, as was the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Police would like to hear from anyone in the area who was a witness, might have dash cam footage of the incident or from the time leading up to it.

Please call police on 101 referencing CAD 214/03OCT with any information. To remain completely anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This article previously incorrectly stated that the victim was travelling in the vehicle hit by the vehicle being pursued by police.
