The Met says it is treating the vandalism to the publicly-displayed Hanukkah emblem as racially aggravated

The Metropolitan Police is investigating damage to a public Jewish display in Muswell Hill as a hate crime.
At 7.35pm yesterday (Thursday 18th) the Met was alerted to damage being done to the public Hanukkah menorah located at Muswell Hill Road, with all the lights being broken.
It is now being investigated as racially-aggravated criminal damage. The Met also says there will continue to be an enhanced police presence at faith sites across Haringey and Enfield over the Hanukkah period.
Superintendent Owen Renowden, the Met’s hate crime lead, said: “This has been a tremendously difficult week for the Jewish community following the terror attack in Australia at the weekend, and I appreciate how these hate crime incidents will cause further hurt and distress.
“We’re working closely with local partners including religious leaders and have put in place additional visible patrols.
“We are treating these reports extremely seriously and will update further when we can. I encourage anyone with any information, to contact us and assist with our investigation.”
At present, it is unclear when the damage occurred. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting CAD6542/18Dec.
