A new hub for London’s fashion industry has been launched and Haringey is an integral part of the project.

The Fashion District was launched in September at an event attended by Justine Simons, the deputy mayor for culture and creative industries; Professor Frances Corner, Vice Chancellor of the University of Arts & Head of London College of Fashion, and Haringey councillor Elin Weston.

Cllr Weston said: “This is great news for our borough, and we’re very proud to be an integral part of the Fashion District initiative.”

The Fashion District will be a new centre for London’s fashion industry, which is worth £1.4 billion.

Nina Romain, senior communications officer for Haringey Council, said that the Fashion District: “Aims to return world-leading fashion manufacturing and design to Haringey and East London.”

As part of the Fashion District, a Fashion Tailoring Academy will be built in Haringey next year. This will provide specialist training in fashion and clothing manufacture as well as being a state-of-the-art manufacturing centre.

The Fashion Tailoring Academy plans to create new jobs in Haringey as well as providing training and affordable workspaces.

“We’re looking forward to the Fashion Tailoring Academy coming to Haringey next year,” Cllr Weston said, adding that the facility: “will provide our young people with specialist skills and job training in the manufacturing and fashion sector.”

The Fashion Tailoring Academy will be built near Fashion Enter Ltd’s existing factory and training facility in the Haringey Warehouse District. Fashion Enter Ltd is a delivery partner of the Fashion Tailoring Academy.

The Fashion District is part of London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s East Bank project, which will involve £1.1 billion of investment in East London. The new hub aims to create 15,000 new jobs and paid internships London wide.
