Covid infection rates in Haringey drop below UK average

By Simon Allin, Local Democracy Reporter

Sharp falls in the seven-day coronavirus infection rates in Haringey have taken them below the UK average.

The number of new Covid-19 cases in Haringey was 112 cases per 100,000 people during the seven days to February 10 – down 44% on the previous seven-day figure.

The latest decline saw the borough’s rates drop below the UK-wide figure of 150 new Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people and the London average of 138 cases per 100,000 people.

It is a sharp contrast to the figures seen at the start of the year, when Haringey had infection rates above 1,000 cases per 100,000 people during the first week in January.

The worst-hit part of Haringey was Harringay Ladder North, with 16 new cases of Covid-19. Tottenham Lea Valley (14 cases) and Roundway (14 cases) also saw relatively high numbers. Alexandra Park and Highgate Wood recorded the lowest rates, with fewer than three new cases each.

With the vaccine rollout continuing, the government has pledged to set out a roadmap out of the current lockdown on Monday, February 22.

The latest infection rate data is based on figures from Public Health England published on the government’s online coronavirus dashboard. It is subject to slight variations, as the figures are continually updated.
