Tottenham Hale community centre The Engine Room announced the launch of a special fundraising event on the roof of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Former Spurs footballer and current club ambassador Michael Dawson joined community activators at the Dare Skywalk, celebrating the launch of its ‘Tottenham Ten’ initiative which will take place on Saturday, 11th June.
The fundraiser includes a 10km running event and 5km walk led by The Engine Room, in collaboration with Tottenham Hotspur FC. Following a break during the pandemic, the annual event is back and bigger than ever before, raising funds for The Engine Room’s essential community outreach, as well as inspiring young people from the Tottenham Hale area to get involved in their local community.
There will be 100 free places for 16–25-year-olds, allowing many young people the opportunity to participate and fundraise for any number of good causes.
Excited to see the launch of the project, and to be working closely with Tottenham Hotspur, The Engine Room’s Obi Onyido said: “This is a really exciting moment for us to be back delivering the Tottenham Ten. We are passionate about the togetherness it brings in the community and given that we have lost out on two years due to Covid, it is so important that we can be back doing what makes a difference, and doing it to the full.
“The Tottenham Ten is a fun, inclusive challenge that we know really brings people together, and we are encouraging people of all ages and abilities to get involved and raise money for our work in the local community or their own favourite charity!
“Young people can make such a huge difference, whether that is helping to deliver sport or social welfare programmes − which are often targeted at helping other young people like themselves. This year, we want to encourage more young people into community activation and into the challenge of taking on a 10k!”
Spurs ambassador Michael Dawson said: “We are delighted to support this fantastic local initiative which is all about bringing the community together − giving local people the chance to take part in a fun and inclusive activity while keeping fit and active. We’re looking forward to working with the Engine Room to put our full support behind the Tottenham Ten this summer.”
