Hornsey businessman Matt Garcia will be heading to Lapland for a special challenge this month

The founder of Total Boxer in Hornsey heads to Lapland this month to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Matt Garcia will embark on a husky trail adventure of Lapland over a five-day period. He will start in Tromsø, Norway, and finish up in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. With temperatures well below freezing, Matt will lead a team of huskies across the Arctic forests, covering a route approximately 270km long.

The journey will see Matt embrace the cold and snow, raising funds to help find a cure for MS, in memory of his grandfather who battled with the condition before passing away. MS is a neurological disorder that affects the body’s central nervous system. More than 130,000 people in the UK have the condition.

Matt said: “It will be a true hands-on challenge and something I have never done before.

“Apart from the five hours a day of balancing on the sled and literally trying to hold on to my husky colleagues, I will be living just like the Laplanders; camping, cooking and tending to the dogs, all in constant icy, untouched nature at temperatures of -20C.”

Matt has been preparing for the challenge by training in the boxing gym to condition his body strength, focus, and stamina.

MS Awareness Week 2022 runs from 25th April until 1st May. For more information about the condition:
