Bus routes serving the borough of Haringey could be reduced, rerouted or cut as TfL begins a six-week consultation on the future of the capital’s bus services.

TfL announced on Wednesday that it was launching the consultation, as it needs to make “significant savings” as the funding row with central Government rumbles on. A total of 78 bus routes are facing cut-backs as a result of the “managed decline” scenario, and as many as 16 London bus routes could be axed completely. Route 349, which currently runs between Waltham Cross Bus Station and Manor House Station, is among the routes that could be axed. Meanwhile, routes 259, 279 and 476 could face significant adjustments.

Under the plans, route 259 would no longer operate between Kings Cross and Holloway, Nag’s Head. In north London it would be extended from Edmonton Green Bus Station to Ponders End via Hertford Road. Route 279 would be restructured to operate between Waltham Cross Station and Stamford Hill, and would no longer operate between Seven Sisters and Manor House Station. Route 476 would be no longer run between Newington Green and Kings Cross.

Seb Dance, the Deputy Mayor for Transport said: “TfL has looked carefully at the routes affected in order to reduce the impact on passengers as much as possible. Routes changed are ones where there are very similar existing services or where passengers would make use of the Mayor’s ‘Hopper’ fare to reach their destination.”

TfL is encouraging members of the public to have their say on the consultation by visiting haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/busreview.
