In-sourcing received “overwhelming support” from residents at a cabinet meeting last December By Alice Kemp-Habib
Leader Peray Ahmet and councillor Dana Carlin
Haringey council has officially in-sourced its housing services.
From Wednesday, 1st June, Homes for Haringey employees and services will be directly managed by the council. This solidifies a move that began in December last year, when 81% of residents backed the proposal.
Homes for Haringey was set up in 2006 to access the government’s Decent Homes funding. It manages more than 20,000 council-owned homes in the borough, with responsibilities including housing repairs, leaseholder services and housing management.
According to the council, this new joined-up approach will enable housing and other council services to work more closely together, leading to an improved service for residents.
Councillor Dana Carlin said: “Residents across Haringey deserve to live in safe, affordable and sustainable accommodation and we will ensure we do everything we can to fulfil this promise.
“Bringing Homes for Haringey back in-house will enhance our ability to provide outstanding and responsive services while ensuring that the resident voice is at the centre of everything we do.
“Incorporating our ambitious building programme with housing management and maintenance services, will further enable us to deliver on our manifesto commitment to build a fairer and greener borough.”
