More than 23 million journeys were made through Haringey’s eleven railway stations in 2022/23 but the number remains behind the pre-pandemic peak
Tottenham Hale is officially Haringey’s busiest railway station with more than seven million journeys beginning or ending there in one year.
In the latest annual data released by the government’s Office for Rail and Road, which covers the 2022/23 financial year, Tottenham Hale was recorded as having 7.56 million entries and exits.
This puts the Greater Anglia station ahead of Seven Sisters on the London Overground, which had 6.11m entries and exits over the same period.
Rounding out the top five busiest local stations were White Hart Lane (1.99m), Alexandra Palace (1.34m) and Hornsey (1.31m).
The statistics only cover railway stations, so tube stations in the borough are not included. Finsbury Park is also omitted as it sits just on the other side of the borough border in Islington.
At the other end of the table, Bowes Park is by far the quietest station in Haringey borough, with just 0.40m entries and exits in 2022/23. Northumberland Park is second quietest (0.78m), ahead of Harringay (0.92m), Bruce Grove (0.99m) and Harringay Green Lanes (1.10m).
While the number of railway journeys being made in Haringey has increased significantly since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic three years ago, they remain behind the pre-pandemic peak.
There were a total of 23.7m entries and exits at Haringey stations in 2022/23, up from 19.5m in 2021/22 but still well behind the 28.1m of 2019/20.
However, the upward trend suggests that Haringey rail journeys could reach a new peak by 2024/25.
