Stephen Mann served as mayor between 2017 and 2018

Local Labour politicians and campaigners have paid tribute to a former mayor of Haringey who died over the Christmas period.

Stephen Mann was a councillor for Noel Park ward between September 2015, when he won a by-election, and May 2018 when he stood down. In his final year as a councillor he served as mayor.

In a statement, council leader Peray Ahmet said: “I was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our former councillor and mayor of Haringey, Stephen Mann. Stephen was a hugely popular figure and well respected throughout the community having been a long-term resident in Hornsey and a ward councillor in Noel Park.

“I know he was so proud to become mayor and carried out his duties with pride and honour. He did so much for the people around him and raised significant funds for his two mayoral charities – Mind in Haringey and Studio 306. Our thoughts and prayers are with Stephen’s family and friends at this sad time. He will never be forgotten.”

Hornsey and Wood Green MP Catherine West also paid tribute and said on Twitter: “Remembering Stephen and his huge contribution to Haringey at this sad time.”

Current Noel Park ward councillor Emina Ibrahim added: “Like myself a fellow Arsenal fan, his contribution and campaigning to improve the experience of Arsenal fans through his dedicated work at Arsenal Independent Supporters Association has been so huge.”
