The Post Office branch was set to close for good but following a local campaign has now opened in a new location
Wood Green Post Office has reopened today (Tuesday 23rd) following a local campaign which prevented the branch from shutting for good.
The Post Office branch shut down in March 2023 and – after an announcement from Haringey Council in September that two new branches would open in Tottenham and Hornsey instead – it seemed the closure was permanent.
However, following a local campaign, in December 2023 it was announced that the Wood Green branch would reopen.
Today, the branch reopened at new premises in The Mall which had undergone a full refurbishment.
The previous premises were based on the High Road, N22.
Mo Islam, Post Office network provision manager, said: “We are delighted to have restored a Post Office to this area as we know how important a Post Office is to a community. The branch’s opening hours will make it convenient for customers to visit.”
Peray Ahmet, leader of Haringey Council, and Ruth Gordon, cabinet member for council house building, placemaking and local economy, said: “It’s great to see that the Wood Green Post Office has re-opened. We know how important Post Offices are to our community, especially elderly residents, people who are digitally excluded and those who don’t use debit and credit cards.
“We were dismayed to see the former branch on the High Road close, and since then we have been campaigning alongside residents and ward councillors for services to be restored locally.
“We are relieved that Wood Green residents will no longer have to travel to access these vital services. At a time when post offices are becoming more and more scarce – roughly 206 post offices have closed in the last two years, two a week – this is a real win for the people of Wood Green.”
