Detectives investigating a murder in Tottenham on Sunday have made an arrest.

The 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Okechukwu Iweha. He remains in custody at this time.

Police were called at 5.51am on Sunday (7th) to Northumberland Park, near the junction with Worcester Avenue, after a man was found unresponsive.

Officers responded with London Ambulance Service paramedics. On arrival they found a man – later identified as 46-year-old Okechukwu Iweha – suffering from a number of stab injuries. CPR was administered but despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Okechukwu’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers and a post-mortem examination will take place later this afternoon.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John is leading the investigation. He said: “Our investigation is making good progress but I continue to urge anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to please come forward and speak with us.

“We are working hard to build a timeframe to establish what has happened. Were you woken up by a disturbance, or did you see anyone running from the area? I would ask that you check any private CCTV or dash cam footage to see whether you captured anything that might assist us.”

Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, in charge of policing in Haringey, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family who are having to come to terms with his life being taken in such a violent way.

“I would like to reassure the local community that we are working around the clock to assist specialist detectives with their investigation.

“We are grateful to residents for their patience and understanding while we go about this crucial work. The crime scenes and forensic work will have caused disruption but it is imperative that we gather any evidence that might prove vital to the investigation.

“If you have information that could help us, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please tell us. You will see officers on the cordons and on patrol and they will be ready to listen to you.”
