A Tottenham music venue and bar fighting to stay open amid spiralling costs has raised more than £14,000 in a crowdfunding drive – with another £16,000 needed.

The Post Bar launched its appeal in February as it said it has accrued significant debts over the last year, setting out to raise £30,000 by the end of April.

The venue launched in 2018, since when its stage has been graced by hundreds of bands and musicians.

Housed in a former post office and estate agent in Tottenham High Road, The Post Bar serves as a community space with a special focus on live music but always under the mantra that “everyone is welcome”.

It has been recognised by Arts Council England as grassroots music venue important to North London.

In an update from owners Camilo and Michela this week, they said: “We’re excited to share some incredible news with you! Thanks to the amazing support from our community, we’ve successfully raised enough funds to cover our quarter rent. It’s truly humbling to witness such generosity and solidarity.

“Now, we’re setting our sights on the next milestone: tackling our hefty electric and water bills, along with clearing any outstanding taxes and debts to suppliers. Every contribution, whether it’s a donation, sharing our message, offering business advice, enjoying a pint at the bar, booking our terrace for a special event, or performing on our stage, has played a crucial role in our journey so far. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!

“With your continued support, we can strengthen our resilience and ensure that The Post Bar remains a vibrant community hub for years to come. If we surpass our stretch target of £30,000, we’re eager to collaborate with the Good Night Out campaign and enhance our sound and light operations plus finally get a good beer cooler as the one we have just doesn’t cut it in the height of summer.”
