Tino Leone was the founder of a community group representing temporary housing residents on Love Lane Estate
Tributes are being paid to a social housing campaigner from Tottenham following his death at the age of 55.
Tino Leone was the founder and driving force behind the Temporary Accommodation Group (TAG) at Love Lane Estate in Tottenham. His family was one of the hundreds brought onto the estate as temporary accommodation tenants after the estate was set for demolition, and he lobbied and campaigned for the right of those tenants to have permanent tenancies.
Paul Burnham, secretary of Haringey Defend Council Housing, has invited residents to pay their respects to Tino at a gathering on Sunday (8th) at St Francis de Sales Church in Tottenham High Road. He said: “Tino was very well known and loved in his community, and his family and friends will be gathering on Sunday for a mass and gathering in his honour.
“Tino was forthright, passionate, and committed to the residents whose lives were blighted by the proposed redevelopment at Love Lane. He worked closely with the small businesses whose lives were blighted as well.
“We are sad and angry that Tino never lived to have the permanent council home for which he worked so hard, after more than 14 years in temporary accommodation.”
Tino worked in events management with Tottenham Hotspur FC. He leaves behind a widow and children.
