Forty new social homes are being built on the Tottenham estate

Broadwater Farm Estate is set to get its first new homes in over 50 years.

The regeneration programme will hit a major milestone after Haringey Council’s cabinet approved the contract to start work on 40 new homes and one commercial unit on the former Moselle School site in Adams Road, Tottenham.

This will comprise of 26 one and two-bedroom flats, ten three bedroom and four four-bedroom homes with four of the two-bedroom flats being fully accessible to wheelchair users.

The new homes are part of a £250million programme of regeneration, including work starting on 294 new homes, the retrofit of 800 existing homes, improvements to the public realm and socio-economic activities introduced to meet the needs of the estate.

Ruth Gordon, cabinet member for placemaking and local economy, said: “I am thrilled we are able to start work on the new homes as part of our transformation programme.

“Since 2019 we have been working closely with our residents and stakeholders to ensure we deliver on a scheme that will deliver the highest quality of housing services and we will now see that come to fruition.

“Residents supported our plans overwhelmingly and this is another great example of how the ‘Haringey Deal’ can work to benefit our local community and provide a safe and welcoming neighbourhood.

“We know the housing crisis is affecting millions across the country, but we are taking action to address that and through this first phase we will provide much needed family accommodation with 14 of the 40 new homes three bed and above.

“New homes are just one part of our plans. We’re already onsite spending £5.5m on upgrades to existing homes, improving road safety with the installation of two new zebra crossings and providing essential services to residents such as ICT training through the community centre. All of this is vital in helping the strong community we have already living there.

“This is a significant moment for people living on the Broadwater Farm Estate.”

The new homes will initially be offered to those tenants who have been decanted from Tangmere and Northolt blocks and Stapleford North residents.
