Haringey’s Stand Up To Racism group is joining anti-racists on Saturday to counter a recent surge in racist attacks, reports Tara Kaneko

Haringey residents are being urged to join a march against Tommy Robinson and far-right racism this Saturday (26th).
Haringey’s Stand Up To Racism group is joining anti-racists this weekend to counter what they describe as “racism driven by the far right and fascist groups”.
Meeting at 11.30am in Regents Street near Piccadilly Circus, the demonstration seeks to unite against Tommy Robinson, a prominent far-right activist and founder of the English Defence League, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.
Stand Up To Racism is a movement against all forms of racism, including Islamophobia and antisemitism, and arguing society is stronger as a result of migration.
In promoting the march, Haringey Stand Up To Racism said: “The Islamophobia, violent attacks on mosques, arson attacks on hotels housing refugees and other racist violence during the summer riots illustrate the deadly surge of racism.
“The most effective way of countering the far-right is by mobilising on the broadest possible scale against them.
“We know from history that fascism has grown when groups of hardened racists are able to dominate the streets.”
The demonstration is supported by all major UK trade unions, including the Trades Union Congress.
Haringey residents will meet on Saturday at both Turnpike Lane and Seven Sisters tube stations at 11am before heading to the demonstration together.
