Councillors have approved plans for 66 new social-rent homes on the Sir Frederick Messer Estate

Plans by Haringey Council to build 66 new social-rent homes in South Tottenham have been approved by councillors.
The land adjacent to Sir Frederick Messer Estate, at the junction of St Ann’s Road and Seven Sisters Road, is currently open space but the new homes, in two six-storey blocks, would become part of the estate once built.
Last week the planning sub-committee approved the new scheme, which will include 25 three-bedroom homes.
It will contribute to the council’s target to deliver 3,000 new council homes by 2031, 2,000 of which are already underway or completed.
Sarah Williams, the council’s cabinet member for housing and planning, said: “In the face of the housing crisis, there is an overwhelming need for new council homes, and we are doing everything we can to make this happen.
“This new development will bring forward much-needed family-sized accommodation for residents with children living locally as part of the delivery of our ambitious and award-winning home-building programme.
“The scheme will deliver high quality homes built to the best design standards with lots of energy saving features that keep running costs low.”
Tenants will benefit from private balconies, extensive green landscaping, more than 100 cycle spaces and high-performance energy saving measures such as solar panels, green roofs and air source heat pumps.
Set to be built on the corner of St Ann’s Road and Seven Sisters Road, the scheme is car free, except for the provision of seven wheelchair accessible Blue Badge parking spaces.
