The civic centre has drafted a five-year action plan and has now launched a consultation

Haringey Council is asking for people’s views on how to improve air quality in the borough.
The civic centre has drafted a five-year action plan and has now launched a consultation.
The council says its draft strategy measures include monitoring air quality levels, as well as emissions from developments and buildings, and increasing public awareness around air quality to promote behaviour changes.
In Haringey, 8.2% of all deaths can be attributed to air pollution, the council states. This is equivalent to around 100 deaths per year.
The consultation is open until Tuesday, 15th July and residents can fill out a survey or attend drop-in sessions.
So far, respondents to the survey have called for more bike hangers, especially in the Bruce Grove area, safer routes for cyclists in Tottenham High Road, and more affordable car clubs.
Enforcing 20mph zones and reducing the number of trees cut down were other measures residents said they’d like added.
As well as how the draft action plan might be improved, the survey asks residents what “lifestyle changes” they would be “willing to make to improve air quality”.
A drop-in session is scheduled for Thursday, 26th June at Chestnuts Community Centre in St Ann’s Road, Tottenham, from 2pm-5pm. Two other sessions, both at Wood Green Library, are planned but the dates are yet to be confirmed.
