MCR Pathways is a mentoring charity that has supported more than 15,000 young people across the UK since 2007.

It is a simple but powerful idea, pairing a young person with a consistent, one-to-one mentor, has helped students build confidence, re-engage with education, and look forward to a brighter future.

This year, MCR Pathways is launching a new programme with Haringey Learning Partnership, supporting young people who may be at risk of permanent exclusion.

For many of these students, life can feel unstable or overwhelming. That’s where volunteer mentors come in. During this period of change, a mentor can be a steady, encouraging presence, helping young people rebuild confidence, explore their strengths, and look ahead more positively.

Just as importantly, mentoring is often highly rewarding for volunteers. As the charity puts it, when one person mentors, two lives are changed.

The mentors need to be aged 21 or over, but can come from all walks of life. They should be available to offer support for one hour per week during school hours, term time, for a minimum of one academic year. No prior experience is needed and full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Mentors will be carefully matched with a young person based on interests and personality. Sessions take place in one of Haringey’s secondary schools, with mentors able to choose a location that works best for them.
