Haringey Sea Cadets is one of those rare local organisations that quietly shapes young people’s lives while strengthening the community around it.

At its heart, the unit gives children aged from ten to 18 years the chance to develop confidence, discipline and practical
skills through a blend of nautical adventure, teamwork and personal challenge.

Cadets learn everything from rowing and sailing to first aid, navigation and leadership — experiences that build resilience, confidence and transferrable skills.

Our volunteers also play a wider civic role. You’ll see Haringey cadets supporting remembrance events, helping at community festivals, and representing the borough at parades and competitions.

These activities teach young people the value of service while giving residents a visible reminder of what local youth can achieve when they’re supported and encouraged.

The unit also provides a safe, structured environment at a time when many families are looking for positive, affordable opportunities for their children.

To keep offering these opportunities, we rely on committed adult volunteers. You don’t need a maritime background — just enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to learn.

Roles range from unit instructors who work directly with cadets, to administrative volunteers who help keep the unit running smoothly, to trustees who guide long-term development.

Every hour donated directly supports young people in Haringey and helps secure the future of a much-loved local community group.

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, consider joining the team. You’ll gain new skills, meet great people and make a lasting difference to the next generation.

Local news needs your support

We are proud that we were at the forefront of reporting on the recent local elections. We can’t do this without the support of our readers.

Independent news outlets like ours – reporting for the community without rich backers – are under threat of closure, turning British towns into news deserts.

If our coverage has helped you understand our community a little bit better, please consider supporting us with a monthly, yearly or one-off donation.
