By the bookStunning new mural created in Wood Green
A colourful mural celebrating literature and multiculturalism has been created on the side of Wood Green Library.
Designed by local artist Anna Nicolo and painted by Tottenham-based Bud Studio, the mural contains the word ‘library’ in Urdu, Polish, Greek, Turkish and Bengali.
Anna said: “I was inspired by the silhouette of the building to create giant and colourful bookshelves.
“The rows of books with their graphic spines create a vibrant and geometric pattern that envelops the side of the building from street level to the very top.
“Some of the book spines display the word 'library' in different languages. This not only reflects and celebrates the cultural diversity of the Wood Green community, but also sends out a message of inclusivity, engaging with an audience that might not normally be engaged with.”
The mural was commissioned by Haringey Council and can be viewed from the footpath linking Wood Green High Road with Parkland Road.
Anna has also been commissioned to create a large mosaic around Bruce Grove Station, which is set to be installed between June and July.
