History fair promises to reveal hidden stories from Haringey

A fair exploring and celebrating the history and community heritage of Haringey will take place this weekend.

On Saturday, 7th October, Bruce Case Museum and Archive is hosting a Haringey History Fair featuring talks by guest speakers, new exhibitions and films – sharing stories from around the borough.

There will also be various stalls in the lecture hall of the museum of heritage, arts and culture; books and author signings and networking sessions throughout the day.  

The fair will run from 10.30am to 4.45pm.

Brief overview of programme:

10.30am – 2.30pm Meet Bevali Mckenzie the curator of Windrush 75: The Grip exhibition; 

10.35am Talk by architect Ray Rogers on the most architecturally diverse street in Britain – Hillcrest Estate in North Hill, Highgate;

11.15am Talk by Matt and Jess Turtle, co-directors of The Museum of Homelessness, on ‘A People’s History of Finsbury Park… And a New Museum’;

11.55am ‘Back to Black’ (virtual) tour of Alexandra Palace by Avril Nanton, Black Cultural London tour guide and author;

12.35pm Take A Seat: Chair With A Story by Bridget Badoe McQuick (aka Lady Esi), poet, community activist and storyteller

2pm Talk by Margaret Burr, Tottenham community historian, on Priscilla Wakefield – ‘Champion of Women’s Role in the Economy’;

2.35pm Talk by Chris Barker, lead at Haringey Footways, on ‘Stepping Out – The Haringey Footways Map’;

3.35pm Pinhole London exhibition, The First Photo, by Ben Nathan, founder and director of Pinhole London;

4.10pm Hidden In Plain Sight: Discovering A Beatrice Offor Painting by Deborah Hedgecock, curator, Bruce Castle Museum.
