Hornsey zero-waste store to shut after director says ‘no way out’

The director of Harmless Store Hornsey took to social media to make the announcement

A zero-waste store in Hornsey has been forced to closed after its director said “the bank is empty” and “there’s no way out”.

The director of Harmless Store Hornsey took to social media to say that trading would likely cease by the end of March, with the closure taking place after all stock is sold.

The owner Tami posted on Facebook: “I’ve had enough of all the responsibilities.

“I’m no longer able to perform my duties as director of Harmless. If I had a board, I’d be sacked. I really needed to distance myself emotionally from the shop to finally get to the point of being able to make this decision.

“The shop will remain open until all the stock is sold. It’s not possible for me to buy anymore. I’m too tired to keep fighting it all every month.”

Harmless Store Hornsey has been open on Tottenham Lane for nearly six years.

Tami added: “I can’t even pay the rent right now. The first two weeks of the month are financially brutal. I can’t keep dealing with it every month and, seeing it get worse, every email that comes through sends me into a tizzy.
I give up!

“The staff are my main priority, and they’ve already been told to take some time to start looking for alternative work. I want them to find somewhere they’re happy with before the doors close. If any vegan businesses are looking for staff, then get in touch. Hannah lives in North London, and El is in East London.”

“My dream now is that I can close the business without any awful bills looming over my head and without anyone being out of pocket.”
