Haringey Council has hailed the “fantastic news” that 97% of children applying to primary schools this year have secured one of their top three choices in the borough.

Last week, children were notified of their primary school placement on National Offer Day. Every child across the borough who applied has received an offer to begin their education journey this September.

Some 88% got their first pick, which is higher than the neighbouring boroughs of Barnet (86%), Islington (84%), and Camden (84%). In total, 98% were offered a school of their preference, which is consistent with the London average.

Ann Graham, director of children’s services at Haringey Council, said: “This is fantastic news for both children and parents. Our education services have gone from strength to strength, and we are extremely proud of how far we have come.

“Attending the right primary school can set the stage for a child’s academic success, social development, and overall well-being, laying a strong foundation for their future growth and achievements.

“Collectively, we are responsible for shaping the future of the next generation, and the council are dedicated to providing them with the necessary opportunities for success. We look forward to welcoming our new reception students in September – offering them the very best start in their education.”

Last year, Haringey achieved a ‘good’ rating overall for its services to children and young people – a first in the borough’s history.
