Bruce Castle Museum in Tottenham is almost ready to reopen as its major restoration continues.

Haringey residents will benefit from improved accessibility and better community spaces when Bruce Castle Museum and Archive progressively reopens to the public throughout the first half of this year.

With the east wing restoration project still ongoing, Emily Arkell, Haringey Council’s cabinet member for culture and leisure, and Kenneth Olumuyiwa Tharp CBE, the council’s joint assistant director for culture and creativity, paid a visit this week to the historic local landmark and tourist attraction to see the progress being made.

Cllr Arkell said: “It was fantastic to see all the work being done to improve the accessibility and amenities at Bruce Castle Museum and Archive.

“This much-loved community asset and education resource will benefit greatly from these improvement works, with even more room space for collaboration, creativity and to showcase locally talented artists.

“The museum will gradually reopen in the weeks and months ahead and we’re all very much looking forward to welcoming back Haringey residents and visitors to the borough in the near future.”

The makeover features a number of exciting changes, including a brand new exhibition room, a dedicated space to celebrate Haringey’s LGBTQ+ history, an education room for school groups and a space for up-and-coming artists.

Improvements will also be made to the existing galleries as well as the search room.

Bruce Castle Museum will remain closed to the public until next month, although pre-existing bookings will go ahead. The archive search room will reopen in February and a phased approach to reopening will continue throughout that month.
