Tottenham woman is raising money for life saving research by running the London Marathon
A local woman from Tottenham Hale will be running the London Marathon in support of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Andrea Toth, 42, will be running in October’s race to help raise vital funds for the charity, joining the fight against heart and circulatory disease.
Andrea said: “I wanted to get involved because my mum sadly passed away from a sudden heart attack three years ago.”
Heart and circulatory diseases are responsible for one in four deaths in the UK every year, ranging from heart attacks to strokes, cardiac arrest to type 2 diabetes. Many people in Tottenham suffer from losing loved ones to these diseases and others are living with them every day.
More than seven million people in the UK are currently living with heart and circulatory diseases; 25% of the population pass away from them.
With the public’s help, propelled by sponsored challenges such as Andrea’s, the BHF can fund research that will bring down the statistic.
Andrea said: “I am hoping to raise £3000 for the BHF helping them to fund the research that is so urgently needed to fight heart and circulatory diseases. My sponsored challenge has been super easy to organise and the BHF have given me a lot of support.”
The BHF is calling on more people to organise their own fundraising events and challenges. Donna Spriggs-Elliott, head of community fundraising at the BHF said: “We never cease to be amazed by the extraordinary ways people fundraise for the BHF. Every contribution, big or small, plays a crucial part in the medical breakthroughs we make, so we are incredibly grateful for their support.
“We urgently need more people to join our fight to beat heartbreak forever and help power our life saving research. That’s why we’re calling on everyone across the UK to organise their own events and sponsored challenges to help support our vital work.”
