Broadwater Farm Estate’s up-and-coming community garden will be available to tour this Sunday (22nd)

The Debden Terrace Garden Project in Freedom Road will be open between 4pm and 6pm. Residents of the estate have been growing a garden of fruits, vegetables and flowers for over a year, nurturing a sense of community between the many volunteers of the garden.

Visitors of Sunday’s event will get to try home-grown organic food, hear the stories of volunteers behind the project, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lordship Recreation Ground from the terrace above.

The fruits and vegetables served on Sunday will have been planted by children from nearby Broadwater Farm Community Centre during their last visit.

Mri Vushaj, a resident of the estate and volunteer at Debden Terrace Garden, said: “I missed having a garden. Especially living in a flat where I don’t have one.”

The project won eight certificates during the recent Tottenham Flower and Produce Show. When asked about her thoughts on the project’s success at the show, Mri said: “It is really nice, a good feeling, as I did not think we were going to win so many.”

The project was given a grant last year by Newman Francis, a community engagement organisation, and gifted soil and a shed by Haringey Council.

On social media, the group also thanked the council “for making this place our peace and harmony spot and a place to meet our neighbours”.
